Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord your God is with you… He will take great delight in you.”
Mental Health Insight – Did you know feeling seen as a child contributes significantly to the amount of shame one might feel as we age? In attachment theory for one to develop a secure attachment, one must feel “delighted in” in their early years. Meaning a child feels a sense of safety and security when their parents come into the room and the parent’s “eyes” light up. Attachment theory knows this as Gaze Regulation. However, if a parent walks into a room and they display Atypical Gaze Regulation, it causes someone to feel as if they are a burden or disappointment developing a shame based identity.
Faith Connection – Many Christians are just waiting for the moment that God will finally “rebuke” them and cast them aside. We fear that God is constantly pointing out our flaws, over surveillancing our every move. However, we see in Zephaniah 3:17 that God is not only with us but is also emotionally invested in our daily lives. We do not have to worry whether or not God is going to only address us when we make a mistake. But rather God walks into the room and lights up with joy, excited to partake in this relationship with His child. We can find peace knowing God “rejoices over you”. Which allows you to transition from a place of “earning belonging” to “enjoying belonging”, as you are already claimed and seen by Christ.
Reflection Questions: When I imagine God looking at me right now, do I see a “judge” looking for faults or a “Father” whose eyes light up with delight?
Prayer Dear God, thank You for being a God who delights in me. I confess that I often view myself as a burden or a project that You are tired of fixing. Today, I lean into the truth of Zephaniah 3:17. Calm my “fear of rebuke” and help me to rest in the security of Your delight. Thank You for being the Mighty Warrior who saves me from my own self-criticism. I choose to believe that I am Your joy today Amen

The Other Half of Church Christian Community, Brain Science, and Overcoming Spiritual Stagnation – Jim Wilder and Michel Hendricks
Description: Neurotheologian Jim Wilder and pastor Michel Hendricks explore how the right side of the brain, which handles attachment and joy, is the key to spiritual transformation. They introduce “The Joy Bond,” a concept that explains how a healthy spiritual life is built by experiencing the light in God’s eyes. By moving away from shame based legalism and toward a relationship of delight, readers can develop a secure attachment with Christ. This book provides a scientific and theological framework to help you stop earning approval and start enjoying the belonging that comes from being God’s child.

I loved the connection today of the attachment theory & how God will always delight in us. We don’t have to feel alone, or earn his love.
Amen sister! I am so glad our educational content is helping your walk with Christ.
With all I am going through right now this was a great reminder that I am never alone with Jesus by my side.
