Mark 6:31 “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’”
Educational Coping Skill: The Step-by-Step Digital Detox
Yesterday, we discussed the significance of a Digital Detox. Today, we will be learning practical steps in order to implement a Digital Detox within your own life. When we are constantly on our phone we can feel overstimulated, overwhelmed, and exhausted. So if you feel as if your nervous system is yearning for a true break, you can use this simple step-by-step guide in order to slow down and “detox” from your phone.

Step 1: Create a Physical “Drop Zone” Your brain is wired to reach for what is easy. If your phone is in your pocket, you will grab it without thinking. Create a specific, physical spot in your home (like a basket by the front door or a charger in the kitchen) where your phone “lives” when you are trying to disconnect.
Step 2: Start with Micro-Breaks You do not have to throw your phone away to find peace. Start small. Set a goal of just 15 to 30 minutes of intentional phone-free time. A great place to start is the first 15 minutes after you wake up or the last 30 minutes before you go to sleep. This gives your brain time to wake up and wind down without the immediate rush of outside noise.
Step 3: Replace the Habit When you take your phone away, your hands and your brain will feel “empty.” Instead of just sitting there fighting the urge to scroll, replace the habit with a neutral sensory activity. Keep a book, a journal, a puzzle, or a cup of tea near your “Drop Zone.” Giving your brain a new, slow activity helps lower the stress of disconnecting.
Reflection Question
Where in your house can you create a safe physical drop zone for your phone today and what is one simple thing you can do while you take a short break from the screen?
Prayer
Dear God, I confess that my mind feels crowded with all the noise and information from my phone. It is hard for me to find quiet moments. Thank You for the invitation to come away with You and find rest. Help me to set healthy boundaries with my screens today. Give me the strength to put my phone down so I can create a quiet place in my heart to listen to Your voice. Amen.

I have recently thought about it and even brought my phone to my room while having Bible time in the living room. But I get fearful I’ll miss a call from husband so I think I’ll move charger to kitchen so it’ll charge and if it rings I’ll still hear it. I sometimes get off fb to digitally detox me and my husband got off for an entire year and now we are in a better place for it, we have been back a few months and feel renewed and refreshed
My therapist and I were just talking about this. I have started leaving my phone in another room while I pick up/put my house to bed. I enjoy cleaning to a point and this is something I can do without my phone. I am starting small.
I also ordered a coloring book and will spend some time coloring without my phone on or near me.
