Many feel overwhelmed as a Christian at times. Trying to find strength in Christ when life is raging on like a storm can feel defeating making you unsure how to find internal peace. Today’s devotional we will be looking at what true internal peace means as a Christian and how one can find the strength in Christ to regain that peace in one’s daily life!
Mental Health Devotional From Biblical Worldview
Psalm 85:8 “I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants…”
Do you know the difference between a silent room and internal peace? It is easy to assume that peace means no problems, a completed to-do list, and a stress free life. But in reality, a life that is “perfect” will only have us on the edge of our seat waiting for the next thing to go wrong. True emotional peace is about developing internal steadiness. Having internal consistency despite how overwhelming one’s life might be within the moment is how we develop true peace. Creating a schedule and personal way to bring internal joy can help keep the peace when life feels like an overwhelming storm.
Faith Connection
When we read Psalm 85:5 God does not promise a life without chaos. The peace that God brings is knowing that His words always remain true, no matter how overwhelming life’s challenges might become. We have the opportunity to accept God as our internal anchor, knowing that He will remain present in every moment of our lives. Although we might not be able to see His greater plan, we can find peace in knowing that His plans are far greater than any storm that arises throughout our lives.
Journal Reflection Question
When things around you are loud and stressful what is one way you can remember that God is your steady anchor of peace today?
Prayer
Dear God, I confess that I often look for peace by trying to control everything around me. When my life gets loud and stressful, my mind feels chaotic and I lose my sense of calm. Thank You for promising a peace that does not depend on my perfect circumstances. Help me to anchor my mind in Your presence today. Teach me how to experience Your deep rest even when the world around me is heavy. Amen.
