Devotional

Proverbs 12:25
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”

Journal Prompt

Anxiety is something that every human being will experience at some point of their life. However, we are reminded that no matter how much this world and its experiences can weigh us down, God came and conquered the world. Today, let’s take a moment to utilize the information we have learned and explore how anxiety is affecting our hearts, souls, and minds. Let’s review these different journal prompts to invite God to carry some of this weight and encourage us.

Reflection Questions:

  • If you took the time to currently place your anxiety on a scale, how heavy does it feel today (1–10)? What is specifically weighing you down? (finances, health, relationships, future)
  • In what ways do you feel your body giving you signals that your heart is being weighed down by these life stressors? Do you notice tension, fatigue, or restlessness? How might God be using your body’s signals to invite you to rest?
  • Think of a time a single sentence from someone changed your entire day. What was said? Why did that specific truth have the power to lift the “weight” off your chest?
  • If you spoke to a grieving or anxious friend the way you currently speak to yourself in your mind, would they feel uplifted and supported or shamed and putdown?
  • Which specific promise of God feels like the “kindest word” for your current situation? (e.g., “I am with you,” “I will provide,” “My grace is sufficient”). Write out the Bible verse and read it throughout the day, week, month.
  • Who in your life currently looks weighed down by their burdens? How can you replicate God’s love to give them a kind word to help share their load?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I admit that my heart feels heavy today. The weight of [name your specific worry] feels like more than I can carry. I thank You that You are the God who sees me and that You do not despise my anxious heart. I ask for encouragement today, through Your Scripture, through a friend, or through the quiet whisper of Your Spirit. Help me to stand tall again, not in my own strength, but in the joy of Your salvation. Amen.
