Isaiah 49:13
“For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.”
Mental Health Insight – Have you ever heard the concept of Mirroring, in the field of psychology? The role of a mentor utilizes the concept of mirroring in order to help one navigate through situations and life stressors. Our brains have cells known as “mirror neurons” that have us replicate others behaviors and emotional regulation. Through a psychology lens, mentors help individuals within their current stressors and obstacles by giving them a future version of themselves that is healthy and whole. By being able to mirror one’s mentor they stop having to figure things out along as they now have a safety net through this phase of their life.
Faith Connection – The disciples shadowed Christ for three years before His crucifixion. They needed Christ to mentor and guide them as humanity prepared to transition into this new covenant. They got to experience first hand how Christ walked throughout this life and follow His footsteps and desires for how we as His children should navigate in this life. The disciples were then able to be mentors for the early Church, guiding and showing them how to replicate the character of Christ. Isaiah 49:13 shows us that God has deep compassion to those who are struggling. We can trust that God will send us help during times of affliction and the help He sends may even be someone who has experienced similar difficulties within their own path. Christ never intended us to walk this life on our own and we should lean on our other brothers and sisters in Christ. So today if you are struggling through a specific difficulty, maybe it is about time that you find a mentor that can help guide and support you!
Reflection Question: Is there a person you admire for their peace or wisdom who has walked a path similar to yours? What would it look like to ask them for a simple coffee or a brief phone call to hear how they found comfort in their own difficult seasons?
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for Your deep compassion for me when I am struggling. I confess that I sometimes feel like I have to solve every problem on my own. Thank You for the gift of mentors and wise people who have gone before me. Please open my eyes to a trusted person who can offer me a steady perspective. Help me to be brave enough to reach out and humble enough to learn from their journey. Amen.

I used to have 2 spiritual teachers I looked up to both were basically my spiritual mom and dads both in medical field and my instructors. One was Dr K and the other was Mrs V. They both moved away and so did that wisdom and guidance I needed from them. I’ll never forget them both, they didn’t even know of each other but some how they were what I needed. Now I sometimes feel alone, I don’t have many Christian friends or hardly any at all.. I don’t have a family that practices the Christian ways just in our household and tbh it’s difficult at times. I want to lead the way but sometimes we all need someone to rely on, talk to and look for wisdom, the friends usually come for me, but unfortunately I don’t go to them because they’re ways are not my ways.. I still love them, but I miss having that mentor. If you have one hold tight and never let them go! It is such a blessing I’ll always cherish. Here’s to the Dr K & Mrs V in your lives <3
