Devotional

John 15:9
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.”

Mental Health Insight – Have you ever struggled with a performance based self-image? To feel as if you are only worthy if we can give, earn, or achieve is an exhausting cycle that will have you end up being a hamster running endlessly on a hamsterwheel. This endless cycle of only feeling loved when we can earn or achieve it leads to burnout, anxiety, depression, etc. This endless cycle keeps our nervous system in high alert, unable to get the rest it truly deserves. However, we can learn to move into a state of peace once we learn, true love and compassion is not earned by freely given. And most importantly, we deserve to receive it that freely.

Faith Connection – The affection we receive from Christ compares to nothing we’ve experienced from other humans in this life. His love is perfect, so full of grace, patience and compassion. It was given to use freely, and never had to be earned. We do not need to worry about being our best selves with Him in order to be loved. Oh no. He seen you at your worst and proudly stated “You are Mine”. So today, take a moment and experience the peace of knowing you are loved and chosen by God.

Reflection Questions: In what areas of my life am I trying to “earn” love or worthiness right now?

Prayer Dear God, Thank You for a love that doesn’t demand I have it all together. When my mind feels chaotic or my worth feels low, remind me that I am held in the same love that Jesus shares with You. Help me to rest in the security of being Your child, letting that peace quiet my anxieties today. Amen

Book Recommendations: I have received a few inquiries from individuals asking to get more information surrounding the devotional topics! If you are interested in learning more about today’s topic I have a great book recommendation below.

The Gift of Imperfection: Brené Brown

Description: Brené Brown explores the concept of “hustling for worthiness,” where we believe we are only as good as our latest achievement or how well we serve others. She explains that this performance-based mindset keeps the brain in a state of high alert, preventing true rest and connection. The book introduces the practice of “Wholehearted Living,” which encourages letting go of perfectionism and embracing the truth that we are enough right now. This aligns perfectly with the faith connection that Christ’s love is a free gift, not a reward for our best behavior. It provides practical guideposts to help you step off the “hamster wheel” and move into a state of peace and self-compassion.

This was so good. The world will always let us down, Jesus won’t. 🥰
