Isaiah 26:3
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast.”

Mental Health Insight –  How can we develop a steadfast mind? Well we can create peace by tapping into our body’s manual override by utilizing Vagal Breathing. In order to do this technique you make your exhale longer than your inhale (like breathing in for 4 seconds and out for 8), you stimulate your Vagus Nerve. Doing this helps slow down your nervous system, helping the body transition out of your fight or flight response. 

Faith Connection – Scripture tells us God will help keep us at peace when our minds are set on Him. By tapping into God’s biological design and using vagal breathing we can help calm our nervous system and redirect our thoughts. Reaching a state of peace isn’t something that happens, it’s a process only obtained when our nervous system feels safe and secure. 


Reflection Question: Today, when a stressful thought surfaces, can you “veto” it by utilizing vagal breathing? How can you show your nervous system that you can choose God’s peace over a physical panic response?


Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the incredible way You have connected my breath to my peace. I praise You that even when my mind feels chaotic, I can use the tools You’ve given me to find stillness. Help me to use my breath as a reminder to anchor my thoughts in Your presence. May my body and mind work together today to reflect Your perfect peace. Amen.
