Devotional
Psalm 91:1
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Mental Health Insight – We have talked about Dr. Dan Siegel before and today we will be talking about one of his foundational concepts known as the Window of Tolerance! An individual’s Window of Tolerance refers to the optimal zone of nervous system arousal where a person feels safe, regulated, and able to process daily stressors effectively. When chronic stress or trauma causes one to be pushed outside this Window of Tolerance, we can enter either hyper-arousal (anxious, panicking, fight-or-flight) or hypo-arousal (numb, exhausted, freeze) states. To overcome this, the brain requires consistent safety, to reassure the brain and help regulate the nervous system back into its optimal, resting window.
Faith Connection – The resurrection of Christ conquered this world, bringing us the peace and reassurance we can find safety in the “shadow of the Almighty”. The shadow of the Almighty helps bring our nervous system back into its most optimal zone, because we can find peace knowing our story doesn’t end with this life’s hardships and trauma. The resurrection of Christ gives us constant safety, that is never ending and never failing. It is not that we will not experience hardships, difficulties, and trauma in this life. Rather, we will experience these for only a brief period in the journey towards the gift of eternal life given freely to us, through Christ Jesus’ sacrifice!
Reflection Question: Are you constantly cycling between feeling overwhelmed (hyperarousal) and completely numb or shut down (hypoarousal)? How does visualizing the finished work of Easter help you bring your mind back to a state of rest today?
Prayer: Dear God, I confess that my mind and body often feel pushed to the extremes. I swing between feeling overwhelmed with panic and completely exhausted by the weight of the world. Thank You for the ultimate safety secured for me on Easter. Help me to step out of the harsh elements of my anxiety and dwell in Your shelter. Regulate my weary heart, and teach me how to truly rest in the shadow of Your finished work today. Amen.

Oh how true this is! I am either hyper aware or unable to move. Thank you, God, that I do not have to carry this all on my own!
I was constantly cycling between the two but I’ve comes long way. I think in part it has to do with Bible journaling and prayer! God has done amazing things for our family. I used to be in constant state of fear, anxiety and just frozen state now I hardly ever feel this way
