1 Peter 2:9
“You are a chosen people… God’s special possession.”
Mental Health Insight – When we feel chosen our brain releases oxytocin and dopamine, neurochemicals that make us feel safe and motivated. Research shows the strongest predictor of low mental health outcomes is found among communities with the littlest support systems. Being “chosen” by people doesn’t just make us feel good, it reduces underlying symptoms of anxiety and depression by calming the nervous system.
Faith Connection – Many individuals will spend their whole lives searching to feel “chosen”, not realizing God is openly offering this gift. By receiving this gift from God and not from the world, it will never run out. There will never be a moment where we have to worry if “He will change His mind”. He is actively pursuing and welcoming us to share this beautiful gift with Him!
Reflection Question: Take a moment to reflect and ask God why you are worthy of being chosen, and why you are His special possession?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of belonging. I praise You, knowing that I am not an afterthought or a face in the crowd, but Your chosen and special possession. I ask that You would quiet the anxiety of my nervous system with the truth of Your permanent love. When the world makes me feel replaceable, remind me that Your choice is final and Your gift of grace never runs out. Let the peace of knowing I am chosen by You, create a sense of peace and motivation in my mind today. Thank you for always choosing to pursue me, even in moments I feel unworthy. Amen.
