Have you ever wondered “what is God’s love?” “How do I know if God loves me?” “How to feel God’s love?” or “Why does God love me?”. Many individuals will grapple with their past feeling overwhelmed and unlovable. Understanding what is God’s love and how do I know if God loves me can appear overwhelming with so many loud voices telling us why He won’t love us. Today, we are going to get a better understand of God’s love and why He absolutely love you today, yesterday, and all of time! Let’s get started!

How Do I Know God Loves Me?

There have been many moments throughout my walk with the Lord where I absolutely doubted God’s love. I often looked back at my past and said “There’s no way He loves me. Look at what I’ve done! I bet God just tolerates me.”

If you have ever felt this way just know you are not alone. It can be so overwhelming and confusing to wrap your head around the idea of just how much God loves you. But believe it or not His love is far greater than you could ever imagine.

You may not believe it yet but I’m hoping by the end of this short devotional on Romans 8:38-39 there will not only be a seed of hope planted in your heart, but a moment of joy during what I am sure is a dark and troubling hour.

Romans 8:38-39 38 NLT

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

When you look at these two verses, are you surprised? This passage says that “not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love”.

What?! Hell is a pretty nasty place. In fact, it’s just about as evil as you can get! But here we can see the apostle Paul stating something as horrible as hell cannot separate us from God. Although hard to believe it is true! But why?

Well NOTHING could ever be greater than the Creator. The devil wants to convince you that a creation could potentially be greater than the God Himself. The devil may try to twist this truth. But no sin, no matter whose it is or how severe it seems, can overpower the holiness and authority of God.

There is not a sin, creation, mistake, fear, or even death that could ever have the power to separate us from God. Why? Because God’s love is not conditional. It’s not about how perfect you can be. No, in fact it relies solely on the perfect sacrifice Christ made for you and me. And I know for a fact that He willingly dies on that cross knowing that you were going to fail Him. That you were going to make mistakes.

And He did it willingly out of His deep love for us!

The devil is a liar. If you are consumed with shame, fear, or guilt about your past feeling as if it has ruined your chance of a relationship with our Heavenly Father, well that is just WRONG!

He wants you now and He wanted you then!

So the next time you start to worry if God truly loves you, remember Romans 8:38-39:

Nothing can separate you from God’s love – Not death, life, angels, demons, the present, or the future. His love is unbreakable.

No power in creation can undo His love – No height, depth, or anything in all creation can come between you and God.

God’s love is constant in every circumstance – Whether you face fear, trials, or uncertainty, His love remains steadfast.

You are secure in His love forever – His love isn’t temporary or conditional; it is eternal and unchanging.

His love is stronger than any force or attack – Nothing, no matter how powerful or evil, can overpower the love God has for you in Christ Jesus.

Christian Book Recommendations

The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning is a beautiful exploration of God’s grace for those who feel beat-up, burnt-out, or unworthy. Manning writes specifically for people who believe God might just be tolerating them because of their past mistakes and sins. The book shatters the idea that we have to be perfect to earn God’s affection and instead points to the relentless, unconditional love of God that meets us right in the middle of our mess. It aligns perfectly with your blog post’s message that God’s love is not conditional and relies entirely on the sacrifice of Christ rather than our own performance.

Gentle and Lowly by Dane C. Ortlund dives deep into the actual heart of Christ for sinners and sufferers. When you write about the devil trying to convince us that our past is too much and that God is just putting up with us, this book provides a powerful, biblical counter-argument. Ortlund shows that Jesus doesn’t just forgive us grudgingly, but that His very nature is to be drawn toward us in our failings, shame, and weakness. This read will beautifully reinforce your message that no sin can overpower the holiness and deep compassion of God.
