Are you looking for Bible verses about peace? Are you wanting to bring the peace God describes in scripture into your life? In today devotional, we will look at how you can apply mental health tips and scripture in your day-to-day life to achieve the peace God wants for your life.

Finding Peace with God

Isaiah 26:3
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast.”

Mental Health Insight –  How can we develop a steadfast mind? Well we can create peace by tapping into our body’s manual override by utilizing Vagal Breathing. In order to do this technique you make your exhale longer than your inhale (like breathing in for 4 seconds and out for 8), you stimulate your Vagus Nerve. Doing this helps slow down your nervous system, helping the body transition out of your fight or flight response.

Here is how to do Vagal Breathing

1.Settle Your Posture: Find a quiet place to sit completely still and physically drop your shoulders to reduce muscle tension, honoring the command in Psalm 46:10 to be still before God while signaling to your brain that your immediate environment is physically safe.

2.Inhale for Four Seconds: Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four, filling your diaphragm to expand your lower lungs and maximize oxygen intake while remembering that the Spirit of God has given you the breath of life as stated in Job 33:4.

3.Pause and Anchor Your Mind: Hold your breath for a brief moment to deliberately fix your attention on God’s steadfast character, fulfilling Isaiah 26:3 by actively choosing to anchor your racing thoughts in His perfect peace before your brain can spiral.

4.Exhale for Eight Seconds:Exhale slowly through pursed lips for a count of eight to directly stimulate your vagus nerve and shift your nervous system out of fight-or-flight, visualizing yourself casting all your biological tension and anxiety onto Him as instructed in 1 Peter 5:7.

5.Repeat to Lower Heart Rate: Repeat this extended-exhale cycle several times until your resting heart rate physically lowers, allowing the peace of God described in Philippians 4:7 to biologically and spiritually guard your heart and mind.

Faith Connection – Scripture tells us God will help keep us at peace when our minds are set on Him. By tapping into God’s biological design and using vagal breathing we can help calm our nervous system and redirect our thoughts. Reaching a state of peace isn’t something that happens, it’s a process only obtained when our nervous system feels safe and secure.
