Devotional

Psalm 90:12
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Mental Health Insight: As much as we desire to do it all, we simply cannot. Having a broad vision with numerous different goals you want to achieve throughout your life can be very overwhelming on a daily basis. Instead, starting each day by prioritizing the Big Three, which can help the day feel more grounded and meaningful. Here is how to do it!

Each morning, identify 3 things that would make the day feel meaningful and productive. Make sure to pick things that can be completed in the day easily, so you are not overwhelmed.

The result? By shifting our focus from the never ending to do list, to smaller goals we move out of survival mode and live more intentionally each day.

Faith Connection – Numbering our days is not about counting down how many we have left. Rather it is about living each day with intention, asking God to guide us to live each day more fruitfully. So for this new season of your life, let’s transition out of the “to do” mindset and into the “called”.

Reflection Question: If I were to stand before God at the end of this day, which three choices would I be most grateful I made the time for?

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the gift of this new day and the grace of my limitations. Teach me to number my moments so that I may not waste them on worry or the pressure of a never ending to do list. I surrender my schedule to You, moving out of survival mode and into the peace of being called. Grant me a heart of wisdom to focus on the small, meaningful things You have set before me today, trusting that as I remain faithful to these priorities, You are holding everything else in Your hands. Amen.

Further Resources

Many of you have been asking for further resources that could potentially benefit you on your mental health journey. Below I have attached a book you might find beneficial surrounding this topic!

Free to Focus: A Total Productivity System to Achieve More by Doing Less: Michael Hyatt

Description: In Free to Focus, Michael Hyatt introduces the “Daily Big 3” as a cornerstone of mental clarity and intentional living. He explains that productivity isn’t about doing more things, but about doing the right things. The book teaches readers how to filter through the overwhelming “noise” of a never-ending to-do list to identify the three most impactful tasks for each day. By narrowing the focus, Hyatt argues that we can escape the stress of survival mode and move toward a life of “total focus.” This system helps align daily actions with long-term vision, transforming your schedule from a source of anxiety into a tool for fulfilling your unique calling.
