Are you struggling with trusting God’s plans for your life? Are you the type to plan every detail of your life? In today’s devotional we are going to explore what it means to be trusting God’s plans for your life and how you can align your life goals with His. Let’s get started!

Trusting God’s plans

Proverbs 16:3
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Mental Health Insight – So much of our anxiety revolves around things we cannot control, the past and the future. As hard as we try, the outcome is something outside of our control. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a form of therapy that focuses on things within our control, helping remove the focus off the what ifs and rather focus on our values and personal behaviors. When we commit to focusing on things within our control, our stress levels drop, reducing our overall anxiety levels.

Faith Connection – In this passage, we see God giving us a clear strategy on how to combat our anxiety. By fixing our eyes on the Lord and committing our daily actions to Him, we can trust that He will guide us no matter the outcome. Despite not knowing what tomorrow holds, we can trust in God who holds our ultimate outcome.

13 Tips to Help Align Your Life with God’s Plans

Focus on Values Over Outcomes: Define your life goals based on God-given values (like love, integrity, and service) rather than meeting a specific criteria, keeping your plans flexible to His leading.

Surrender the Results: Write down specific steps that are within your control today and intentionally surrender the final results to God to place your trust in God’s divine hands.

Pray for the Next Step: Instead of stressing over a five-year plan, ask God daily for the wisdom and clarity to simply take the next right step.

Practice Holy Detachment: Whenever you write down a personal ambition, silently add “if the Lord wills” to practice a healthy, psychological detachment from your own expectations.

Be Present in Today’s Work: Shift your focus away from anxious “what-ifs” by practicing being fully present and faithful in the specific tasks God has placed in front of you right now.

Reframe Closed Doors: Protect your peace by treating closed doors and “failures” not as personal defeats, but as divine redirections shielding you from paths not meant for you.

Examine Your Motives: Regularly evaluate the “why” behind your goals to ensure they are driven by a desire to glorify God rather than an anxious need to maintain control.

Make Character the Goal: Focus on cultivating the fruits of the Spirit—like patience and peace—in your daily habits, making who you are becoming more important than what you are achieving.

Seek Godly Counsel: Share your aspirations with spiritually grounded mentors who can help you objectively discern if your personal plans align with biblical truths.

Schedule Sabbath Rest: Build a mandatory day of rest into your goal-chasing routine as a physical and mental declaration that you trust God to establish your work even while you pause.

Document God’s Track Record: Combat the psychological habit of worrying about the future by keeping a gratitude journal of past answered prayers, reminding your anxious brain of God’s faithfulness.

Embrace the Unknown: Choose to view the discomfort of uncertainty not as a threat, but as a purposeful training ground designed to build your spiritual resilience.

Commit the Interruptions: Start each morning by verbally handing your schedule over to God, accepting that unexpected changes to your day are often His actual, perfect plans.

Prayer

Dear God, I hand over the worries I cannot control and the outcomes I cannot see. Thank You for the relief that comes when I stop trying to carry the future on my own. I commit my effort and my heart to You today, trusting that as I take my next small step, You are already establishing the path ahead. Replace my anxiety with the peace of Your presence. Amen.
