Between making sure your technology is crash proof, your office is sound proof and confidential, and that your home therapy realm is comfy and stocked I have the best list that will save you ENDLESS hours of trouble! 

These are all items I have used and STAND by. I don’t splurge on a lot of things but being comfortable working is something that I won’t negotiate. 

Create Your Website With Ease

MacBook Air

The GOAT of telehealth laptops. When starting telehealth therapy I had been using the same 2019 macbook that got me through my Bachelors, Masters and first 6 months of telehealth therapy! The only reason why I had upgraded to a new macbook was due to my shelf falling on my macbook and shattering the screen! I never ran into any issues with my old macbook and after I upgraded I still stand by it. Not to mention the newer model cameras are AMAZING! Macbooks are seriously the best computers that can do it all for your therapy practice needs!

Screen Extender

Clicking back and forth between your session, worksheets, and notes can be overwhelming and honestly distracting. Adding a monitor or screen extender is seriously a must have. It makes productivity so much easier and keeps the flow of the session easy. 

HyperX QuadCast Mic

Making sure the client doesn’t have to fight to understand you or that they hear annoying background noise is a top priority, especially with Telehealth. Adding a professional mic prevents a lot of headache later down the line. I often would get compliments on my audio quality and many clients commented how professional my set up seemed which made them WANT to come back!

HyperX Gaming Headphones

I must admit I am obsessed with the HyperX brand! But don’t let “gaming” in the name fool you. The quality is amazing and I never had to worry about getting distracted with my neighbor mowing or dogs barking outside. They are sound proof and the sound quality helped me pick up on the littlest of details I would have missed if I was just relying on my lap top quality. Not to mention it added that extra layer of protection when it came to making sure no one could accidentally hear sessions! 

The Ember Temperature Control Mug

There is nothing more tragic than reaching for your coffee or herbal tea mid-session only to realize it’s gone ice-cold. I owe my practicum supervisor credit for this one! She introduced me to the Ember Temperature Control Mug and I never looked back. I would have my designated tea station on my desk and extra water bottles so if I ran out mid session I never had to worry! I just added some new water and a tea bag and I was set! 

Extra Comfy Office Chair

Your back will thank you. Trust me, if you get anything from this list it should absolutely be this chair. At first I just bought a regular office chair from Walmart. Big mistake! My posture was horrible and showing up for my sessions became difficult. My back pain started to distract me so I knew I needed to fix my chair situation, and I am so glad I did!

Mini Fridge

Stepping away for a cold water or a snack isn’t always an option during a tight 10-minute transition. Having a mini fridge tucked under your desk literally helped reduce the stress of trying to fit everything in between sessions. A simple must have definitely makes your office your safe space!

A High-Quality External Webcam

If you already have a pc or laptop and you are not ready to upgrade that is okay! I have personally used this webcam as well and it really helped make things look more professional. The set up was easy and I never really had to mess with it after again. 

A Ring Light 

I often would have many late night sessions and the natural light would quickly fade away and my session camera quality would tank. A simple ring light to attach around your computer gets rid of any issues that may arise with light quality! 

A Reliable White Noise Machine

Even if you live alone, thin walls happen. Placing a white noise machine outside your office door is a must for HIPAA compliance and giving your clients total peace of mind that their secrets aren’t traveling to the living room. This is one that I wouldn’t negotiate either.
